New Feature: Venue Preferences

Preferences - Data ServicesThis morning ScreenScape added a new feature to the service called “Venue Preferences”.

The ScreenScape solution is designed from the ground up for large distributed networks. Many of our networks are made up of central Group managers who collaborate with dozens or hundreds of Venue managers at the local level. Our ongoing challenge is to introduce new features that strike the right balance between centralized control for the Group manager and empowerment of Venues at the local level.

Today we added yet another feature designed to help strike that balance. “Venue Preference” is a new tool to help automate the publishing of Weather and News content at the local level. It doubles as a handy default setting for Venues and a power-user tool for Groups.

For Venues, it saves on repetitive tasks like defining local weather settings, or recalling the URL string of your blog’s RSS feed. More here:

For Groups, it provides a way to publish a single Content item to 100′s of locations with auto-customized weather and news for every Venue. More here:

We hope you like it!

Want to win some ScreenScape gear?

It’s a summer tradition here at ScreenScape that we all look forward to — staff t-shirt time! This year we went for a simple black t-shirt sporting our logo in white. The team loves them.

Problem is, I ordered too many. Everyone has their t-shirt and I somehow ended up with leftovers!

What’s a girl to do with all this extra ScreenScape gear?

Running a give-away sounds like a fantastic idea to me. So how ’bout you hop on over to Facebook and “like” our page. That will enter you into a draw for a limited edition 2012 ScreenScape t-shirt!

Draw date: September 17, 2012. Good luck!

A New Look for ScreenScape

Kaizen: “small and never ending improvements lead eventually to greatness”

At ScreenScape, we believe there’s always room for improvement. In that spirit, we’ve been listening to the feedback of our members about the ‘look and feel’ of our Displays. The conclusion? Time for a makeover.

Join us on Foursquare Day 2012

ScreenScape is thrilled to be supporting and participating in Foursquare Day again this year.

If you have ever been to a Meetup or a Tweetup…you may already know what Foursquare Day is all about. In 2010 the New York City location-based marketing service, Foursquare, officially declared April 16 “Foursquare Day” after a grass-roots movement that began in Tampa, Florida gained traction and eventually spread to hundreds of cities throughout the world. Foursquare Day is now a global social media holiday celebrated every April 16th. If you live in a major metropolitan area chances are there’s a progressive restaurant or bar in your area that is hosting a Foursquare party. Here are a few of the best online resources to learn more:

As an online service for engaging audiences inside real world places ScreenScape is a natural complement to location-based marketing services like Foursquare. Using ScreenScape the manager of a venue such as a restaurant, a bar, or a hotel, can use a digital display to promote Foursquare check-ins and offer specials to patrons.

The End of 4:3?

On May 1st 2012, ScreenScape will end native support for screens using the 4:3 aspect ratio.

When ScreenScape first began offering its digital display service in 2009, we engineered the software to offer full screen support for the three dominant aspect ratios of the day – 4:3, 16:9 and 16:10. We achieved this through a complex method that detected the ratio/resolution of a display screen at the time it was launched, then made on the fly adjustments for a real time best fit.

This dynamic approach has helped ScreenScape members to share their content in the ScreenScape Community without having to worry about the re-formatting of those assets to fit the varied screens that other members might be using. But it had its trade offs. Apart from code complexity, the main compromise was living with the limitations imposed by a one-size-fits-all design.

Trade Spend in the 21st Century

What’s the 21st Century incarnation of the “Coke sign”? 10 years from now, are trade spend dollars still going to be spent on glass, aluminum, glue, paper and shipping costs? Or will they be spent on the instantaneous exchange of virtual ad content across a digital network? Increasingly, the omnipresent trade spend is going towards pixels displayed on-site, at the retailer where the supplier’s goods and services are sold.
